In 2006 I qualified as a person centred counsellor (level 4 diploma). Previous to this I worked with children and have a Certificate of Higher Ed Psychology, as well as a diploma in childcare. I worked with psychologists in 2002 delivering treatment for the Lovaas Institute, for children diagnosed with autism. I then went on to pursue my counselling career.
I began working in the field of substance misuse 2005, delivering tier 3 services, working alongside probation, social workers and other local statutory and none statutory services.
In 2012 I was given the opportunity to offer a counselling service for Shardale therapeutic community; a specialised tier 4 substance misuse rehab service, where I currently still work.
I have worked with people from multicultural diverse backgrounds and have experience of working with an extremely wide range of issues; from severe violent sexual abuse to advice and information around problem solving and decision making. I have worked with victims and perpetrators and respect anyone who can self reflect honestly and take personal responsibility, desiring positive change.
I have extensive training in group work facilitation, ITEP, Brief Intervention, Relapse Prevention, addiction, Safeguarding, Assessment, Care planning, Motivational interviewing, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Anger Management, Anxiety Management, Communication skills and other qualifications in holistic therapies such as Acupuncture, Reiki level 2, Indian Head Massage, Swedish Massage.
